Arenal Volcano in La Fortuna, Costa Rica
In 1968, the Arenal Volcano changed everything about the small town of La Fortuna, when it erupted after a long period of inactivity. Before this time, it was known as Mount Arenal and none of the neighbors considered it a volcano or threat of any sort.
Since the '68 eruption, the now Arenal Volcano, has maintained active and has had enormous influence on the surrounding towns, especially La Fortuna of San Carlos, which has become the Costa Rican destination associated with the Arenal Volcano.
Today, La Fortuna is a town whose inhabitants have developed their economy around the tourism, mainly attributed to the Arenal Volcano.
Nonetheless, this destination offers many other attractions such as hot springs, theme and ecological parks, adventure activities, and of course a large variety of accommodation options to meet each person’s individual needs.
